Fleet Vs Non Fleet
Fleet vs Non-Fleet Trucking Insurance
What constitutes a fleet of trucks varies differently by different people.
Some state authorities maintain that anything above 5 power units is a fleet. Most insurance companies make the distinction somewhere between 10 and 20.
In any instance, a fleet constitutes more underwriting variables than a non fleet risk and therefore can command a little more expertise as an agent as opposed to a non fleet account.
A non fleet account is rather straight forward. The underwriting data consists primarily of a driver, the drivers experience as a driver, their driving record, any documented losses that might be available, where they are going and what they are hauling.
A fleet consists of a lot more moving parts. All of the same considerations that a non fleet risk is subjected to and more. A large difference in the underwriting of a fleet policy is the documented loss experience. All fleet underwriters provide loss runs for their clients.
If you are unfamiliar with these terms or uncomfortable quoting on a fleet above 20 units, feel free to contact me and I will work with you on making sense of it all.
